A Championship Built On A Legacy

For nearly three decades, the Kathy Whitworth Invitational has brought together many of the nation’s most talented junior golfers to compete, grow and experience the game Kathy Whitworth loved.

Founded in 1999 and shaped by Kathy’s commitment to junior golf, the Invitational has become more than a championship. It is a place where young women test their games, build lasting relationships and become part of a tradition that extends far beyond the tournament.

In 2027, the Invitational returns home to a newly renovated Mira Vista Country Club, honoring its history while beginning an exciting new chapter.

“The Kathy Whitworth Invitational, which I won TWENTY-PLUS years ago, (gasp!) was such an important win to me as a young aspiring golfer. I still view the KWI as the catalyst to my professional golf career and am so proud to say I was a winner of such an amazing tournament.”

Honoring Walter Rainwater

The Kathy Whitworth Invitational honors the memory of Walter Rainwater, whose support, generosity, and love for the tournament helped shape the KWI from the very beginning.

As one of the tournament’s earliest supporters at Mira Vista Country Club, Walter was a familiar and beloved presence overlooking the first tee—welcoming players, professionals, families, and friends for many years.
In recognition of his lasting impact on the tournament and the junior golfers it serves, the 2027 Kathy Whitworth Invitational will proudly be dedicated in his honor.
