Lewisville, Texas — Round one of the 27th Kathy Whitworth Invitational is in the books at The Lakes at Castle Hills, where a field of 70 of the nation’s top junior girls golfers began competition on Monday, with 68 players completing the opening round.

Three players are tied for the lead at 4-under par 68 after the opening round: Ashnoor Kaur of Roanoke, Virginia, a member of the class of 2027 committed to the University of Missouri; Ashley Shaw of Litchfield Park, Arizona, a 2027 graduate committed to the University of Georgia; and Hailey Kim of Simi Valley, California, a member of the class of 2029.

The day began with cloudy skies, but by the afternoon the clouds parted to reveal a beautiful North Texas day with temperatures climbing into the low 80s. Winds added an extra layer of challenge for competitors, with gusts reaching up to 19 mph throughout the day.

The prestigious event features players from 16 different states and three countries, highlighting the national and international reach of the tournament as it continues to attract elite junior talent.

Now in its 27th year, the Kathy Whitworth Invitational is being played for the second consecutive year at The Lakes at Castle Hills, with the championship course set up at 6,308 yards for the competitors.

A team of 15 USGA-certified Rules Officials were on site throughout the round to assist players with rules questions and help maintain pace of play. The field also drew strong interest from the collegiate level, with approximately a dozen NCAA Division I coaches walking the course to watch the players in action.

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the final round, where the field will compete for the Kathy Whitworth Invitational title. For players, the practice range will open at 7:45 a.m.
