Lewisville, TX – The 26th Kathy Whitworth Invitational is officially underway at The Lakes at Castle Hills, with a competitive field of top-ranked junior girls from 17 different states showcasing their talent. Following a chilly and damp Junior-Am round on Sunday, players were greeted with ideal conditions for Round 1, as sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s set the stage for an outstanding day of golf.

At the top of the leaderboard is Alicia Bellendir of Coppell, Texas, who fired an impressive 6-under-par 66 to take the solo lead. Bellendir came out strong with four birdies on the front nine, followed by three more birdies and a single bogey on the back to secure her spot at the top.

Just two shots back, Michelle Lee (San Antonio, TX) and Juliana Hong (Norman, OK) are tied for second place at 4-under-par (68), keeping the pressure on as the tournament heads into tomorrow’s final round.

Adding to the excitement, there are about a dozen college coaches are in attendance, scouting the next generation of elite golfers as they compete in one of the nation’s most prestigious junior girls’ events. Learn more by visiting KathyWhitworthInvitational.com.
