Fort Worth, Texas – March 12, 2024 – The 25th Kathy Whitworth Invitational, presented by the Louella & Nicholas Martin Foundation, concluded with great success at the prestigious Mira Vista Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. The event, which attracted 72 talented young female golfers from over 30 states, witnessed an exciting showcase of skill and sportsmanship, with over 25 Division I college coaches in attendance.
Shyla Brown, hailing from McKinney, emerged as the champion, displaying remarkable consistency and poise throughout the tournament. Brown clinched the title with impressive rounds of 73 and 69, resulting in a two-day total of even-par 142. Her exceptional performance earned her a well-deserved exemption into the LPGA’s esteemed Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G.
“This is a great event, I have a great first impression, and I’m excited for next year! Having my family out here means everything to me, and I want to give all the glory to God, I couldn’t do anything without him,” said Shyla.
Austin’s Swetha Sathish and Lily Peng from San Ramon, California, tied for second place with scores of 70 and 73, respectively, for two-day totals of 143. Brynn Kort, the first-round leader, secured a commendable fourth-place finish with a two-day total of 2-over par 144.
In addition to the thrilling competition, the event provided opportunities for the participants to advance their golf careers. Sydney Givens earned an exemption to compete in the Kathy Whitworth 88 Championship on the newly renamed ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour. Meanwhile, Lily Peng and Swetha Sathish secured exemptions into the 2024 Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Regionals.
The success of the 25th Kathy Whitworth Invitational would not have been possible without the support of Mira Vista Country Club, which has graciously served as the host venue for the past 25 years. We also thank the dedicated volunteers, Rules Officials, and College Coaches whose contributions enriched the experience for all involved. Special thanks is also extended to the players and parents whose participation continues to elevate the status of this event as one of the nation’s premier junior girls’ tournaments.
Looking ahead, the Kathy Whitworth Committee is already gearing up for the 2025 Kathy Whitworth Invitational, inspired by the legacy of the tournament’s namesake and the incredible talent displayed by the next generation of female golfers.
